The main structures and general layout of Fort Collins are primarily drawn from the architectural forms of the late 1800s and early 1900s, with newer buildings’ designs based on the city’s original look. In pop culture history, Fort Collins’ Old Town district was used as a model for what is now Disneyland Main Street USA.
Fort Collins Historic Downtown Mountain Ave & College Ave Take a walking tour of One of the oldest districts in Fort Collins, many of the structures are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Old Town area contains a wealth of historical buildings dating back to as early as the 1880s.
202 Remington St The Mayor’s House. Built between 1885 and 1889, its most famous resident, Dr. Peter J. McHugh, purchased the house in 1899 and converted the barn into a private hospital.
328 W Mountain Ave The original house, constructed out of stone, was referred to as a cottage due to its elaborate arrangement of gable dormers on the second floor.
Fort Collins Commercial Bank & Trust 146 N College Ave The Fort Collins Commercial Bank & Trust opened in 1907. Housed within a one-story Classical Revival building, the exterior façade is dominated by two large arched windows and a similar arched doorway, separated by pilasters.
